College Transition Bridge: Supporting Students Beyond the Classroom

April 3rd, 2026

Each spring, classroom visits to Math Bridge sites across the Central Valley offer a powerful window into how students are preparing not only for college-level mathematics, but for the broader transition into higher education and career pathways. Alongside the rigorous math curriculum, students enrolled in Math Bridge also gain access to College Transition Bridge (CT Bridge), a comprehensive college, career, and life readiness resource designed to guide seniors as they prepare for life after high school.

Developed by Dr. Nicole Korgie, CT Bridge provides Math Bridge seniors with a structured set of college preparation modules delivered asynchronously through Canvas. Through these modules, students explore topics such as financial aid, college systems, career planning, transfer pathways, and practical life skills. The curriculum is designed to complement the Math Bridge classroom experience, ensuring students receive both academic preparation and practical guidance as they approach graduation.

CT Bridge also connects students to broader regional efforts to simplify college pathways. Through partnerships with organizations like the Central Valley Higher Education Consortium (CVHEC) and tools such as Program Pathways Mapper (PPM), students can view clear academic roadmaps that outline the courses needed to complete Associate Degrees for Transfer and align with four-year university requirements. Program Pathways Mapper was developed through collaboration between community colleges, universities, and the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office to help students visualize their full academic plan. CT Bridge introduces students to these types of pathway tools early, reinforcing the importance of planning coursework strategically so they can stay on track for transfer, degree completion, and career success.

Across multiple classroom visits this spring, students consistently highlighted how CT Bridge helped them feel more informed and less overwhelmed about their next steps.

One of the most frequently mentioned benefits of CT Bridge was the guidance it provides around financial aid, a process that can feel intimidating for many first-generation college students.

“I found the FAFSA step-by-step guide on the CT Bridge Canvas to be super helpful. I was able to get signed up and qualified for financial aid which was a huge relief.” — Connor

“I found the FAFSA module on CT Bridge super helpful… I felt less overwhelmed filling everything out once I had a guide.” — Galilea

“I appreciate the California College outlook guide and the financial aid directions on Canvas.” — Brandon

“The videos on financial aid and scholarships were super helpful and have helped me financially prepare for college next fall.” — Natalia

“I’ve found CT Bridge helpful, especially the financial aid information and the breakdown of the California college system.” — Makayla

Students also shared how the program helps build the confidence they need to take the next step after graduation.

“This class has helped me gain confidence and self-reliance. I feel a lot more comfortable heading to college next semester now that I’ve taken Math Bridge.” — Alejandro

“I didn’t know there were handouts and downloadable resources until recently, but now that I have found where they are on Canvas, I am taking full advantage of them.” — Jazmin

“The CT Bridge modules help us keep up with college prep material and stay checked in to course content. I like having so many resources in one place.” — Jocelyn

For many students, CT Bridge provides an early glimpse into the realities of college life and the decisions that come with it.

“I enjoy learning new life skills and reading about different situations one might encounter after high school. CT Bridge helps me get a peek into what the future holds.” — Kimberli

“CT Bridge is set up really well… the step-by-step guides are helpful, and there is a lot of college preparatory material available.” — Bryan

“The CT Bridge videos are applicable and have been helpful in guiding me as I apply to colleges. I have been accepted at several colleges already.” — Anahi

The support doesn’t end at graduation. As part of the broader Math Bridge initiative, the College Bridge team continues to follow students into their first year of college. Alumni are asked to reflect on their transition and share how CT Bridge helped them navigate the challenges of freshman year; from managing course loads and finances to understanding campus resources and transfer pathways.

Across all of these classroom visits, a consistent theme emerged: students want guidance, clarity, and support as they prepare for life after high school. CT Bridge provides that structure, ensuring that Math Bridge seniors have access to essential information about financial aid, college systems, career exploration, and real-world decision making.
