The term “Financial Aid” includes all of the following: Scholarships, Grants, Loans, & Work Study. This webinar will review the types of aid low income & first generation should students realistically expect to receive. Students and families should be familiar with what aid they are eligible for, and have a realistic understanding of what they might be offered, BEFORE they apply. This webinar will review the most common types of aid to expect including Pell grants, Cal Grants, and student loans.

This webinar will review: the similarities and differences between the FAFSA and California Dream Act Application; how to advise students on which application they should complete; how to determine student dependency status; how to determine which parent information to include; and other FAQs about the financial aid process. We will also cover the advantages of submitting the application, well before the March 2nd Cal Grant deadline. 
COVID-19 Impact: Preparing for Financial Aid Appeals

Topics covered will include extreme special circumstances, such as incarcerated parents and unsafe home environments. Additionally, there will be an overview of FAQs on what will likely qualify as a dependency override. This webinar will review the role of the School Counselor in the process and how they can be proactive in spotting situations that will likely need more support.
